MACSA Academia Calmecac and MACSA El Portal Leadership Academy, two college preparatory public charter schools, have implemented a successful educational strategy to develop previously underachieving students into eligible college bound success stories. 

The mission of MACSA's Charter schools is to empower students to excel personally, to succeed in college, and to flourish and lead within a diverse world to create positive change.

MACSA’s charter schools opened in the summer of 2001.  The schools offer a small learning environment with rigorous standards where all students are known well and where critical thinking and leadership skills are explicitly taught and practiced.  Students and their families have the opportunity to thrive in the midst of a carefully planned supportive atmosphere uncommon in today’s public high schools.  The driving force for the schools is the holistic approach to service delivery that characterizes MACSA programs and calls for the nurturing of students and the creation of personalized learning plans in order to maximize student achievement and leadership development.  Parents are supported, empowered and incorporated in the education of their children and in the governance of the school.  MACSA’s charter schools are uniquely equipped to serve students who:

                  P   Have a desire to go to college

                 P   Prefer small class sizes (22 to 1)

                 P   Need extra instruction in Literacy and Math

                P   Have a history of receiving grades below their potential
